Goodbye Freeparking

Standard

As I type this the process for moving the last of my domains away from Freeparking has begun…

As expected there was no reply from my last posted support update and the email package they put me on without asking has expired so after an email re-shuffle I can now move away from them forever…

My last update on the open support ticket…

It cannot happen soon enough…

Keys…

Standard

Been after a new key for the car for a while… only got the one and it a worry if I lose it or it gets damaged… VAG forums are awash with people wanting to do keys and eBay has so much choice its tricky to know what’s good and what’s not… dealer keys are silly money so got in touch with a guy called Craig Nettleton who has a good rep… really nice fella and sorted me out with a ‘Bentley’ key.

So… an actual blog…

Standard

This is the first post of no doubt not very many as I am notoriously rubbish at keeping this sort of thing going for long…

I have had my domains for some many years now and have up until now parked them at Freeparking who up until a few years ago have never given me cause to consider leaving them…. there have been email outages and some odd configuration of their mail servers that meant I would get flagged as a spammer or emails from others would just get rejected altogether…

I have lived with this until recently when in no doubt an effort to provide a better service they migrated over to a “new system”… the email announcing this appeared quite last minute and after the migration had taken place all my email stopped working… of course…

Was not all doom and gloom as the change to get it working again was a simple one but a ball ache non the less… it was then I discovered that they had migrated my email from a free service to a paid for service… now while I appreciate that these things do cost money and Freeparking are in no doubt within their rights to charge for ‘a service’ the migration to said service was done without my knowing.

I hadn’t received any notification that under the new ‘regime’ I would now have to pay for my email accounts and had not been given any options to address the issue at all… they just went ahead and did it… they didn’t even let me know after the fact either!!… then of course I get the ‘ransom’ email asking for payment of the service I hadn’t asked for or agreed to be moved on…

I had also put in a support request asking what was going on and other than them confirming they had migrated me to the paid for service because I had more than two email addresses I haven’t heard a bean from them about my complaint on this matter..

So… Here I am having moved to a new hosting company with an actual blog… I decided to use the wordpress software as it was free and easy to setup plus its been soooo long since I have done any web development I doubt I could write something quite as useful without losing the will to live so here it is and here I am…

Its not without a degree of irony that I made the decision to move from Freeparking it seems… their attempts to better their offerings hasn’t gone unnoticed…
