Local sunsets

Such a lovely evening last night but the 6D is out of commission until I can give it a thorough clean of all the dust πŸ™

Chomping at the bit to take a couple of pics I grabbed my trusty old 50D with its 18-135 EF-S lens and just set off up the road as it was too late to travel further and took a few pics…

Always a tricky one when faced with fairly non descript subject matter and the shoot wasn’t really planned, just a spur of the moment thing but I think my favourite shot of the evening has to be this one…

The old 50D done good… pretty sure the 6D would have produced sharper cleaner images (and so it should tbh) but the 50D still seems to be able to capture some impressive images.

An afternoon in Bath….

Standard

Lovely weather today so went out with the wife and my youngest daughter to Bath… while I was there I took a few pics πŸ™‚

The A46 to Bath has some beautiful scenery… I couldn’t find a decent place to park to be able to get a decent composure and any parking space there was meant a bit of a walk on a busy road to find somewhere to take a shot… maybe if I didn’t have the family with me I would have given it a go but I managed to find a place that looked ok…

One thing I ended up being plagued with was dust spots on the pics… while I was processing the pics I noticed that these were in exactly the same place on pics taken with both the 100-400L and the 16-35L so that at least suggests its not the lenses… it does now mean its either the sensor itself or the circular polarising filter that was swapped between both lens while taking the landscape shots…

After a bit of tweaking (well… a lot!!)

I am hoping its the CPL as the earlier shots in Bath using the 16-35L didn’t have these spots on them…

I have ordered a Kenro Air Duster kit that has a ‘vacuum’ attachment so will give the body a good clean out and re-test…

Other than that it was a really good day out πŸ˜€

Spontaneous beat the weather (and light) photos

Standard

Was working from home yesterday and all it did was rain… rain, rain, rain, raaaaaain!…

Then late evening it stopped and the sun came out, the clouds broke up so I grabbed my bag and headed out to an area a couple of miles from me to try some shots I had been eying up for a while…

Sadly I was a bit too late by the time I got there and it was clouding over again plus the sun was lower than I realised (I live on a hill so see it for longer than you can lower in the valley)

Grabbed a couple of shots while I was there anyway and will go back when the light/weather is more favorable…

I must say I am not really used to being spontaneous (as my wife will tell you) but it felt quite nice to just run out the house for a quick shoot πŸ™‚

Transit of Mercury across the sun

Standard

So today Mercury passed in front of the sun making it visible with the appropriate equipment…

I took the day off with the intention of taking up to half a dozen shots so that I could put them together to give the even perspective… however… as this is the UK the weather (which looked ok in Fridays forecast) had other ideas and I was greeted with an endless blanket of grey skies….

I did try planning to travel further up the country to find somewhere I could at least grab a few shots but sadly without travelling half way across the country (not something I was looking to do unless there were other photo opportunities available so had resigned myself to the fact it wasn’t going to happen… until… the cloud cover thinned and the sun popped out around 12.30pm (BST) so I set up and grabbed a shot… this is around the time that Mercury was first visible…

Mercury's transit across the sun

Sadly this was the only shot I could get all day as it shortly clouded over again…

Facking weather!!!

Massive disappointment tbh but thats the way it goes…

Mercury is quite a small dot of course so fired up Photoshop anyway to make something of what I had..

Still… I got a lay in this morning so not a total bust lol..
