Broadway Tower

Standard

Been wanting to take a trip to Broadway Tower in the Cotswolds for a little while and Friday night presented an opportunity so off I went…

The structure is buried well and truly in the countryside but the scenery is stunning… so much so I found myself stopping a couple of times to take a quick ‘snap’

When I got to the location I didn’t realise there was a public walk that could have got me closer to the tower so found myself on the side of the road with the 100-400…

Annoyingly there were people around the tower which made composing a shot a little tricky but I took a series of shots at different positions along the fenceline… biggest problem however was the clouds… the sky was clouding over as I was driving so by the time I got there the sun was starting to disappear behind cloud 🙁

So here are the shots from the trip

Its a shame I didn’t realise I could have gotten closer to the tower and that the weather turned but the pictures worked out well and I plan to revisit at a later date.

Lastly a couple of random pics I took on the way to the tower… there was a few other shots I would have liked but will have a go at them the next time…

An afternoon in Bath….

Standard

Lovely weather today so went out with the wife and my youngest daughter to Bath… while I was there I took a few pics 🙂

The A46 to Bath has some beautiful scenery… I couldn’t find a decent place to park to be able to get a decent composure and any parking space there was meant a bit of a walk on a busy road to find somewhere to take a shot… maybe if I didn’t have the family with me I would have given it a go but I managed to find a place that looked ok…

One thing I ended up being plagued with was dust spots on the pics… while I was processing the pics I noticed that these were in exactly the same place on pics taken with both the 100-400L and the 16-35L so that at least suggests its not the lenses… it does now mean its either the sensor itself or the circular polarising filter that was swapped between both lens while taking the landscape shots…

After a bit of tweaking (well… a lot!!)

I am hoping its the CPL as the earlier shots in Bath using the 16-35L didn’t have these spots on them…

I have ordered a Kenro Air Duster kit that has a ‘vacuum’ attachment so will give the body a good clean out and re-test…

Other than that it was a really good day out 😀

Day off photography….

Standard

Continuing one from this mornings sunrise and silhouettes fun and games I had to drop my youngest daughter into town so had a drive around afterwards to find something else to photograph…

First up was a disused factory building…

On the way back from there I went up over the top to look down at the Stroud valleys…

Always willing to experiment I tried the following shot with both the Samyang @ f2.8…

…and @ f4 with the Canon 16-35L…

Quite a difference in DOF….

Despite being awake since 4am this morning its been a throughly good day off… Dominoes, Netflix and an early night I think… good job the moon is out else I may have had to do some nightscapes too 🙂
