Golden Hour fun and games….

Standard

Been a little while since I have had a chance to grab a golden hour image but after my recent success with the Milkyway (blog post here…) I was up for some sunset/rise action..

The weather report suggested that the night would be clear after nightfall so thought I would try and get the double (sunset and MW shot) at South Cerney lakes so fired up PlanIt! and checked it out…

Unfortunately when I got there I found that particular lake was surrounded by a 6 foot hedge and locked up for the night making access a little interesting to say the least… I clearly wasn’t going to get much choice composure wise so made the best of it by poking the camera through the gate…

The MW shot wasn’t going to happen due to the only angle I could get a clear shot with… the left of my shot was obscured by a building and to the right was a wheelie bin… so took these instead…

Worked out better than I thought 🙂

Feeling motivated from those results I was up a little earlier than usual the following day and took a slightly different route to work across Minchinhampton and Rodborough common and captured these…

Spontaneous beat the weather (and light) photos

Standard

Was working from home yesterday and all it did was rain… rain, rain, rain, raaaaaain!…

Then late evening it stopped and the sun came out, the clouds broke up so I grabbed my bag and headed out to an area a couple of miles from me to try some shots I had been eying up for a while…

Sadly I was a bit too late by the time I got there and it was clouding over again plus the sun was lower than I realised (I live on a hill so see it for longer than you can lower in the valley)

Grabbed a couple of shots while I was there anyway and will go back when the light/weather is more favorable…

I must say I am not really used to being spontaneous (as my wife will tell you) but it felt quite nice to just run out the house for a quick shoot 🙂

Day off photography….

Standard

Continuing one from this mornings sunrise and silhouettes fun and games I had to drop my youngest daughter into town so had a drive around afterwards to find something else to photograph…

First up was a disused factory building…

On the way back from there I went up over the top to look down at the Stroud valleys…

Always willing to experiment I tried the following shot with both the Samyang @ f2.8…

…and @ f4 with the Canon 16-35L…

Quite a difference in DOF….

Despite being awake since 4am this morning its been a throughly good day off… Dominoes, Netflix and an early night I think… good job the moon is out else I may have had to do some nightscapes too 🙂
